Only three more days until the Niagara 50K Ultra!
I’m about as ready as I can be. I’ve tapered to the point where I ran only 6.5K on Saturday, the same on Sunday, not at all on Monday (though I did some strength training), a nice 6.5K tempo run yesterday, and a 10.5K steady pace run this morning.
I’m hydrating carefully and well, and will get in some carb-loading meals over the next three days (a pancake breakfast, one or two pasta dinners). I’ve got my race strategy all worked out – run the 50K as if it were a Sunday LSD run, at a 6;30 pace and walking through each water/food station. That should see me finishing in 5 1/2 hours if all goes very smoothly, 6 hours if I have to crawl a bit.
As I know all too well, though, the best laid plans sometimes go awry. Here’s hoping things work out for the best…
