This morning, I registered for the Iroquoia Trail Test 32K, which takes place on August 21.
This will an interesting event, for a couple of reasons. For one thing, it will be the first trail race I’ve ever done. In fact, if I don’t get myself in trail mode very soon after the Niagara 50K Ultra, it will be the first trail run I’ve ever done. (All the races I’ve ever done have been on the road, and all my training is on asphalt and sidewalks.)
Secondly, the Iroquoia Trail route goes up and down the Niagara Escarpment. That means it’ll be pretty. This photo shows typical scenery for the area:
But it also means it’ll be a tough race. The organizers describe the course as a “rugged trail running test that offers 7 major climbs over varied surfaces of trail, road, gravel, rocks and double creek crossing (you will get wet feet at ~3 km and ~6 km).”
Sounds like serious fun. I’m looking forward to it!
