Of all the things that make me feel good about a race event, there are few that nudge me more towards registering than a good race director. Sure, a good route, great scenery, and competent organization all matter a lot. But a proactive and responsive race director is critical.
That’s why I’ve decided to give in to temptation, and do the Sarasota Half Marathon next March.
Yesterday, I fired off a quick email to the Sarasota Half general information address. This morning, I got not one, but two, responses from Javier Sanchez, the event’s race director. One was an email reply, and the other was a comment to yesterday’s Temptation post.
Javier invited me to post his contact information here, so that others would feel free to contact him directly re any questions they might have about the Sarasota Half.
He can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
He also told me that a few barefoot runners participated in last year’s event. That means that Chris G., Julie R., and I won’t be making history by being the first. But we won’t be alone, so perhaps this will simply be a case of “the more the merrier.”
Just to whet your appetite (so that hopefully you’ll join us), here’s another photo from last year’s Sarasota Half Marathon.
See you on March 11, 2010 in Sarasota!
